10 Tips to Make Your Article Stand Out from the Crowd
Know Your Readers
Imagine yourself to be the reader of your article. As a reader, what information would you like to get from this article, what questions would you like answered? Knowing your reader is the first step in deciding the structure and tone of your article. For example, if the reader wants to know how to get rid of acne, he is not interested in finding out the whole process of acne formation, he just needs a few great remedies and how to apply for best results.
Another example, when people search keywords like "excessive drooling in dogs," what they want to know most is what causes this condition, what can be done and when he should visit a vet, etc.
In a word, know what group of people your readers are (teenagers, concerning mothers, pet lovers, life trick seeker, etc.) and what information they want most so that you know what and how to write.
Do Enough Research
Enough research will make your article more accurate and creditable. You may have a general idea of whatever you intend to write about; however, you can get more details like clear definitions, statistics, materials that aren't text, and other complimentary information. Make sure you have gathered all the information from reliable sources like government websites, newspapers or professional writing!
Have a Clear Outline
Now that you have everything prepared and been ready to write an article, then you need to outline it. What should be the first part to talk about? What comes next? And what should be the last part? Think it clearly before writing and make sure the article has a coherent structure, because a clear structure and logic will keep readers follow your idea easily and keep them read on. If possible, write down the first sentences, which should be the main ideas, of each paragraph.
Use Subpoints and Bullet Points Wisely
Subpoints and bullet points will express your article in an orderly and logical manner, making readers get your point easily and pinpoint the information they need. Whenever you intend to give some examples or suggestions, explain different causes or symptoms, etc., using sub/bullet points is a good choice.
Given the fact that there are tons of similar topics or articles out there, how is your work going to stand out? By being unique! Believe me, uniqueness will surely make your article shine through all the others. Think about it, one article keeps repeating all the cliché, while another one shares a whole new idea. Which one would you prefer?
But being unique is not that easy. That's true, but being unique is not necessary as difficult as we imagined. A slightly changed recipe, a real life story or experience, a piece of advice to a particular group or situation... even better, an original photo you took, a video you shot to demonstrate what you want to say... Do not allow your narrative to go on and on, or off in too many directions without any focus. This does not help in addressing key concerns of the readers, which discourages them from reading on. In terms of using specific language, DO NOT just say that this recipe (say egg yolk and avocado) is the best for beautiful hair. Instead, you must explain what makes it a great option.
Write in a Proper Language Style
As we speak, we have different tones for various occasions, like a formal tone for conferences, but a causal and humorous one for family reunion. That is also the case for writing. When writing, you will want to write with a language style that is suitable for the type of your article. Should the language be causal and light so that the audiences will enjoy the reading with a happy thought, or should it be instructional and professional so that the reader will be more willing to take in what you've presented? Picture it in your mind then choose the right language style.
Choose Complementary Materials
Words are powerful when used well, but words alone sometimes may be monotonous. You will want to write an article with elements such as pictures or videos that will impress your readers while livening up the whole article. As we mentioned, it's even better to take your own photo or upload your own video.
Polish up Your Work
Now you've completed the article and you're just about to submit it. But hang on; take couple of minutes to check your work. Is the structure logically and coherently arranged? This reader wants a list of best friend tag questions, so give him a list containing a wide range of questions to ask. The language is concise, the focus is clear, without drifting off in other directions.
You cannot just list a bunch of songs and tell the readers they are the best Spanish songs of all time. You have to explain why they are the best and the story behind each song. The videos further make the article diversified and easier for the readers to listen to the song so that they'll decide if they like it.
Based on the readers' need and the materials you have gathered, you can come up with a clear outline to discuss amniotic fluid leak: what it is, why it happens and how to treat it.
When writing such articles, besides telling your readers how great the movies are and how fascinating the plot develops, throw your audience some trailers or clips about the movies so that they can see it for themselves if these movies are to their taste.
